Cockroaches

Cockroaches have been on the earth for more than 400 million years. The three most common cockroaches in Queensland are American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana), Australian Cockroach (Periplaneta australasiae) and the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica). They are not at all attractive, scuttle around in the night and generally make you feel like your place must be dirty and unhygienic.
They are good survivors. In fact, they were alive when dinosaurs walked the earth! They were probably the first flying animals.

Fact is - we don't want them in our house and although they do their best to keep hidden from you, you know that if you see one there are a dozen more that you have not seen.

To a large degree the cockroach is a maligned species. In itself it is quite harmless. It doesn't bite or sting. The problem with cockroaches is the places they prefer to live in like:

In general cockroaches do not eat much food but tend to infect it and spread disease.

While cockroaches are no proof of dirty premises, unhygienic conditions, dirty dishes and food particles left lying around will attract them. They tend to prefer vegetable matter but will eat almost anything.

They are night creatures and like to hide in dark corners and inside food packages by day.
